Welcome to my 2012 information page. This article is dedicated to serving those who fabricate outlandish and repugnant theories about December 12, 2012, the Earth's so-called doomsday. Continue reading to find out more...
What is 2012? 2012 is a number, relatively large if measured in weight but in today's standards, small in currency. More to the point, however, 2012 is an upcoming year (leap year in specific) that will start on a Sunday.
What is the significance of this year? Besides the so-called Mayan doomsday prediction, the Polish will implement the Euro as their currency, another round of the Winter Olympics, several sporting events such as Super Bowl (46) XLVI, the US presidential elections, a few solar and lunar eclipses, and probably some other insignificant information that doesn't need to be listed here.
Okay, more to the point, what's the Mayan doomsday prediction? The Mesoamerican Long Count calendar ends on December 12, 2012. This, in turn, has sparked predictions that the world will end on December 12, 2012. However, the Mayans themselves never specifically wrote the ending of the world was imminent during this time.
Then why all the controversary? Frankly, my bullshit detector is going off on high when I hear people get all hyped up about this date (and I thought I was pessimistic). I'm not sure whether or not to take people seriously when they tell me they plan on digging a bunker. Wait a second, isn't some kind of cataclysmic event going to transpire? Isn't the point of the apocalypse to end all human life as we know it? I suppose it doesn't occur to these people that digging a hole in the ground isn't going to save them from these many catastrophes. Now putting aside any Mayan prophecies, that leaves you with the Book of Revelation, Planet X, and Y2K. Wait, that one didn't already happen. Bummer.
What COULD possibly happen? Anything. What's stopping an asteroid collision, a super volcano from erupting, or a giant solar flare from obliterating Earth? Absolutely nothing! World wide catastrophes can occur at any time, any year, and/or any day. Again, the Mayans themselves didn't affiliate any apocalyptic event(s) with December 12, 2012.
My theory? A war ravaged planet. With violence escalating, there is that slight possibility that a nuke might be fired off. It would only take the collapse of a world power and an eruption of chaos to push the world into nuclear holocaust. With no possible peace solution in the future's midst, it only makes sense that man creates his own apocalypse. Write that into the Book of Revelation and you've got a proper end to the Bible. |
